The 11th Edition of the African Women’s Cup of Nations to be held this year in Ghana is officially known as the TOTAL WOMEN’S AFRICA CUP OF NATIONS GHANA, 2018. The biennial tournament is organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the Women’s National teams of Africa.
This tournament also doubles as the African qualifiers to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be held in France. This means that, the top three teams will qualify for the Mundial.
There were no other country bidding to host the event other than Ghana. Ghana was de facto awarded the hosting rights on 27 September 2016 and officially in mid-December. This meant that, Ghana qualified automatically as host, while the remaining seven spots were determined by the qualifying rounds played in April and June 2018.
This makes Ghana a first-time host of the biennial tournament.
The tournament will be held in Ghana (Accra Sports Stadium and Cape Coast Stadium), from 17th November to 1 December 2018.
